We've only heard consistent positive feedback from our customers who've needed a journey plan plumber for emergency plumbing repairs. We've also had the pleasure of working directly with Justin and The Plumbing Doctor's team to reroute a main sewer line. Prompt arrivals from their team and clear communication throughout our project from Sarah. Pricing was fair and reflected the high quality company.

Justin of the Plumbing Doctor was fantastic! He was able to quickly assess my leaking sink, find the problem of a worn down drain, and after a quick conversation with me replace the drain really efficiently. He also took the time to explain everything for me so I could understand exactly what was going on and what to look out for to avoid this issue.

Reading all the 5/5 star reviews, makes this feel redundant, so instead take this as your sign to call now.

This husband and wife duo expertly and professionally handled my appointment from the first phone call to the parting handshake.

Sarah was the lead as she was the first person I made contact with. I had a situation that was not an emergency, but still urgent, that would require them to come after hours. Even knowing that it wasn’t an emergency, Sarah still did everything in her power to get a technician out to me as soon as possible. She was extremely communicative, and her lines were open past business hours in order to accommodate me and my needs. Not only was she welcoming, but she was patient, understanding of my situation, and eager to help. So I want to give her a special thank you for facilitating the appointment during her personal time.

Then the closer came in the form of Justin, who picked up right where his wife left off with professionalism and experience, but also the patience to explain everything that he was going do to tackle my situation. He is a wealth of both experience and knowledge, and genuinely just a good person - type that you feel comfortable with being in your home and respecting your space, while treating your house better than he would treat his own.

I had an unusual toilet installation that required the existing water shut off valve to be moved to a different location. I had a tight timeframe due to scheduling conflicts that had him come out on a Saturday to complete the job. The initial plan would’ve had me also do drywall repair, painting, and then have the toilet installed after that had all been completed. Justin, masterfully, found a way to move my waterline and have it installed without the need for any of that extra work to be done. I didn’t call him for the toilet installation, but he did his job so efficiently that he had the time to install my toilet afterwards, which saved me a good four days worth of other plumbers and handyman coming out. And to top it all off, he waived the toilet installation fee!!! Which would have been very expensive because this was all overtime work!

Justin is an amazing plumber and an even more amazing human being. His passion for his career shines through in his work, and is only overshadowed by his love for his family. He’s driven by doing the job the right way and giving the customer what they need while also doing right by them. To find a tradesmen this dedicated to his craft after everything he’s been through in his journey, is a rarity I don’t think you should take lightly. Therefore I wholeheartedly recommend Sarah and Justin for all of your plumbing needs. Thank you both so much.

I just had a great experience working with The Plumbing Doctor. Justin came in to fix an issue we were having with an old urinal in the bathroom at my church. He gave me all the details I needed about our pipes and the valve we needed, etc., enabling me to make what I feel was the right choice - to remove it! He got it out of there and capped everything off nicely and cleaned up. He didn't recommend the most expensive solution. He gave me the facts and I was able to decide for myself. Also, Sarah in the office is a perfect communicator and worked with me before and after the weekend to get the timing perfect. Over all the experience was top notch. Thank you!

Why Fast Leak Detection in Portland Matters

A hidden water leak in your Portland home can waste up to 10,000 gallons a month and cause thousands in damage before you ever see a wet spot. Water finds the path of least resistance — behind your drywall, under your subfloor, through your foundation. By the time you notice the stain or smell the mold, the damage is already weeks old. And it’s stressful, because you’re not sure where the leak is, how bad it is, or what it’s going to cost.

A licensed Portland plumber arrives, finds the source, and gives you a firm price before touching anything. No vague estimates. No surprises on the invoice. One call to The Plumbing Doctor is often all it takes.

Water Leak Detection & Repair Services in Portland, OR

From a dripping pipe joint to a pressurized break under your slab, we handle every type of water leak repair in Portland and the surrounding area.

Hidden Pipe Leak Detection

Leaks inside walls, ceilings, and floors cause the most damage because they go unseen the longest. We trace hidden water leaks to their exact source using pressure testing and systematic diagnosis — before any access hole is made. You know where the leak is and what the repair will cost before we cut anything.

Slab Leak Detection & Repair

A break in the supply or drain lines beneath your concrete foundation is one of the most serious leaks a homeowner can face. Signs include warm floor spots, running water when nothing is on, or foundation cracks. We pinpoint the break with pressure isolation, then walk you through every repair option with honest estimates.

Underground & Yard Line Leak Repair

Buried water supply and irrigation lines can leak silently for weeks, saturating your soil or undermining your foundation. If your Portland water bill is spiking with no indoor explanation, an underground line leak may be the cause. We trace and repair yard line leaks with minimal digging.

Leak Behind Walls & Ceilings

A slow leak behind drywall — from a pinhole in copper pipe, a failing joint, or a worn supply line — can soak insulation and framing for weeks before any surface sign appears. We locate the leak, confirm the source, and complete the repair with the smallest access necessary.

Water Heater Leak Diagnosis

Leaking water heaters are usually caused by tank corrosion, a failing pressure relief valve, or a loose inlet connection. We diagnose the cause and give you a straight answer: repair or replace. We never push a replacement when a repair is the right call.

Supply Line & Shutoff Valve Leaks

Braided steel supply lines and angle-stop shutoff valves are a leading cause of sudden water damage in Portland homes. We replace failing supply lines before they become a flood.

Toilet Base & Fixture Leaks

A slow seep at the base of a toilet or around a fixture can quietly rot your subfloor over months. We find and fix these leaks before they turn into structural repairs.

Pinhole Leaks in Copper Pipe

Portland’s older homes with original copper plumbing are prone to pitting corrosion, producing small, fast pinhole leaks across a whole section of pipe. We repair pinhole leaks or repipe the affected section — whichever makes more financial sense for your home.

Signs You Have a Hidden Water Leak in Your Portland Home

You don’t need a puddle to have a serious leak. Watch for:

  • Your Portland Water Bureau bill has increased without explanation
  • You hear the sound of running water when all fixtures are off
  • A section of your floor feels soft, springy, or slightly warm
  • You notice discoloration, bubbling paint, or staining on a wall or ceiling
  • A musty or mildew smell with no visible moisture source
  • Your water meter moves after all water in the home is shut off
  • Unusually green, wet, or sunken patches in your yard
  • Cracks forming along your foundation or slab

Quick Self-Check

Turn off every water fixture in your home. Go to your water meter and watch it for 15 minutes without using any water. If the dial moves at all, you have an active leak somewhere in your system. Call us at 503-407-3045 and we’ll track it down the same day.

Repair or Replace? An Honest Answer.

Our Portland plumber will always give you the straight answer — and never steer you toward the more expensive option.

Repair

Makes sense when the leak is isolated to a single joint, fitting, or short pipe section and the surrounding pipe is in good condition. Most water leak repair calls in Portland fall into this category and are resolved in one visit.

Repipe a Section

Makes sense when you’re seeing multiple pinhole leaks in the same copper line, the pipe material is corroding throughout, or a spot repair isn’t cost-effective long-term.

Full Repipe

Makes sense when the home’s plumbing is aging across the board, leaks have appeared in multiple locations, or you’re planning a renovation. We’ll tell you honestly if you’re at that point — and give you a clear quote so you can decide without pressure.

How Our Portland Leak Detection & Repair Process Works

Step 1: You call or book online

Sarah answers promptly and works around your schedule, including same-day appointments when a leak is active. Describe what you’re seeing and hearing — she’ll make sure Justin arrives prepared.

Step 2: Your Portland plumber arrives on time

We give you a specific arrival window, not a four-hour range. You’ll know exactly when to expect Justin, and he’ll be there.

Step 3: Accurate detection, upfront price

Justin performs systematic leak detection: pressure testing, visual inspection, and methodical tracing. He explains where the leak is, what caused it, and what the repair will cost — before any work begins.

Step 4: Professional leak repair

We make the smallest access necessary, complete the pipe leak repair correctly, and test the system before closing up. Your space is left clean and all debris is hauled away.

Step 5: You understand what happened

Justin walks you through the cause of the leak, what was done, and what to watch for. You’re never left wondering whether the repair was done right.

Frequently Asked Questions: Leak Detection & Repair in Portland, OR

How do I know if I have a hidden water leak in my Portland home?

The most reliable early sign is an unexplained increase in your Portland Water Bureau bill. Other signs include hearing running water when all fixtures are off, warm or soft spots on your floor, discoloration or staining on walls or ceilings, a persistent musty smell, or a water meter that keeps moving after all water is shut off. Quick self-check: turn off all water and watch your meter for 15 minutes — if it moves, you have an active hidden water leak.

What is slab leak detection and do I need it?

Slab leak detection is the process of locating a break in the water lines running beneath your concrete foundation. You likely need it if you notice warm spots on your floor, hear running water with everything off, have an unexplained spike in your Portland water bill, or see new cracks in your foundation. We use pressure isolation to confirm the location before any concrete is touched.

How much does leak detection cost in Portland, OR?

Leak detection in Portland typically ranges from $150 to $400 depending on the location and complexity of the suspected leak. Slab leak detection may run higher due to additional pressure testing. We provide a clear upfront quote on all leak detection and repair work — you know the cost before anything starts.

Can you repair a water leak the same day you find it?

In most cases, yes. Our goal for every water leak repair call is a single-visit resolution — find the leak and complete the repair in the same appointment. Most pipe leak repairs, supply line replacements, and fixture leaks are resolved same-day. If a slab leak repair requires additional planning, we’ll explain that clearly and schedule a fast return.

Why is my water bill suddenly high in Portland?

A sudden spike in your Portland Water Bureau bill is one of the clearest signals of a hidden water leak. Common causes are a running toilet, a pinhole leak in copper pipe, a failing supply line, or an underground yard line leak. Turn off all water and watch your meter for 15 minutes. If it moves, call us — we provide same-day hidden leak detection.

Can a hidden water leak cause mold in my Portland home?

Yes, and in as little as 24 to 48 hours. A slow leak inside a wall cavity, beneath flooring, or in a ceiling creates persistent moisture in an enclosed space — exactly where mold thrives. Portland’s climate makes this worse during wet months. If you suspect a leak active for more than a few days, mention it when you call — we check for moisture damage and mold risk alongside the leak.

How long does a water leak repair take in Portland?

Most pipe leak repairs and supply line replacements take 1 to 2 hours from diagnosis to completion. Slab leak detection and repair typically takes longer depending on the depth of the break and the repair method chosen. We give you a realistic time estimate before we start.

What areas do you serve for leak detection near Portland?

We serve Portland and all nearby cities including Beaverton, Hillsboro, Oregon City, Canby, Aloha, Lake Oswego, Tigard, Tualatin, West Linn, Milwaukie, Gresham, Sherwood, Wilsonville, Happy Valley, and Forest Grove. If you’re outside these areas, call 503-407-3045 — we may still be able to help with same-day leak detection.
