Justin of the Plumbing Doctor was fantastic! He was able to quickly assess my leaking sink, find the problem of a worn down drain, and after a quick conversation with me replace the drain really efficiently. He also took the time to explain everything for me so I could understand exactly what was going on and what to look out for to avoid this issue.

Reading all the 5/5 star reviews, makes this feel redundant, so instead take this as your sign to call now.

This husband and wife duo expertly and professionally handled my appointment from the first phone call to the parting handshake.

Sarah was the lead as she was the first person I made contact with. I had a situation that was not an emergency, but still urgent, that would require them to come after hours. Even knowing that it wasn’t an emergency, Sarah still did everything in her power to get a technician out to me as soon as possible. She was extremely communicative, and her lines were open past business hours in order to accommodate me and my needs. Not only was she welcoming, but she was patient, understanding of my situation, and eager to help. So I want to give her a special thank you for facilitating the appointment during her personal time.

Then the closer came in the form of Justin, who picked up right where his wife left off with professionalism and experience, but also the patience to explain everything that he was going do to tackle my situation. He is a wealth of both experience and knowledge, and genuinely just a good person - type that you feel comfortable with being in your home and respecting your space, while treating your house better than he would treat his own.

I had an unusual toilet installation that required the existing water shut off valve to be moved to a different location. I had a tight timeframe due to scheduling conflicts that had him come out on a Saturday to complete the job. The initial plan would’ve had me also do drywall repair, painting, and then have the toilet installed after that had all been completed. Justin, masterfully, found a way to move my waterline and have it installed without the need for any of that extra work to be done. I didn’t call him for the toilet installation, but he did his job so efficiently that he had the time to install my toilet afterwards, which saved me a good four days worth of other plumbers and handyman coming out. And to top it all off, he waived the toilet installation fee!!! Which would have been very expensive because this was all overtime work!

Justin is an amazing plumber and an even more amazing human being. His passion for his career shines through in his work, and is only overshadowed by his love for his family. He’s driven by doing the job the right way and giving the customer what they need while also doing right by them. To find a tradesmen this dedicated to his craft after everything he’s been through in his journey, is a rarity I don’t think you should take lightly. Therefore I wholeheartedly recommend Sarah and Justin for all of your plumbing needs. Thank you both so much.

I just had a great experience working with The Plumbing Doctor. Justin came in to fix an issue we were having with an old urinal in the bathroom at my church. He gave me all the details I needed about our pipes and the valve we needed, etc., enabling me to make what I feel was the right choice - to remove it! He got it out of there and capped everything off nicely and cleaned up. He didn't recommend the most expensive solution. He gave me the facts and I was able to decide for myself. Also, Sarah in the office is a perfect communicator and worked with me before and after the weekend to get the timing perfect. Over all the experience was top notch. Thank you!

Repair or Replace?

Should You Repair or Replace Your Toilet?

Repair Makes Sense When
Replacement Makes More Sense When
The toilet is less than 10 years old, the issue is limited to internal parts such as the flapper, fill valve, or handle, or the repair costs less than 50% of a new unit.
The toilet is cracked, over 20 years old, uses 3.5+ gallons per flush, or requires frequent and costly repairs.
The clog is a one-time event rather than a recurring problem, and the toilet is otherwise structurally sound.
You're renovating and want the toilet to match a new bathroom aesthetic, or you want to upgrade to a dual-flush or low-flow model for better water efficiency.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does toilet repair cost in Portland, OR?

Toilet repair costs in Portland typically range from $100 to $400 depending on the issue. Simple fixes like replacing a flapper or fill valve are on the lower end. More involved repairs — such as a cracked tank, supply line replacement, or wax ring re-seat — cost more. We always provide a clear, upfront quote before any work begins.

Can you fix a running toilet the same day?

In most cases, yes. A running toilet is one of the most common calls we receive, and it’s usually resolved in a single visit. Because a running toilet can waste up to 200 gallons of water per day — adding significantly to your Portland water bill — we treat it as an urgent repair and aim to come out the same day you contact us.

How long does a toilet installation take?

A standard toilet installation typically takes 1 to 2 hours. This includes removing the old unit, inspecting and preparing the floor flange, setting the new wax ring, installing the toilet, connecting the supply line, and testing for leaks. If additional work is needed — such as repositioning the shutoff valve or repairing subflooring — the job may take longer, and we’ll let you know upfront.

Should I repair my toilet or replace it?

It depends on the age of the toilet, the nature of the problem, and the cost of repair versus replacement. Generally, if your toilet is less than 10 years old and the issue involves internal components (flapper, fill valve, handle), repair is the better value. If it’s over 20 years old, uses 3.5+ gallons per flush, or has structural cracks, replacement often makes more financial and environmental sense. Justin will give you an honest assessment — we never push a replacement when a repair is the right call.

Do you install customer-supplied toilets?

Yes, we can install a toilet you’ve already purchased. We do recommend calling us before you buy to confirm the model is compatible with your existing rough-in measurement (the distance from the wall to the floor drain), which is typically 12 inches in most Portland-area homes but can vary.

What areas do you serve for toilet repair and installation?

We serve Portland and all surrounding cities including Beaverton, Hillsboro, Oregon City, Canby, Aloha, Lake Oswego, Tigard, Tualatin, West Linn, Milwaukie, Gresham, Sherwood, Wilsonville, Happy Valley, Forest Grove, and more. If you’re unsure whether we cover your area, just give us a call.
